Human Givens psychotherapy has been called “the missing heart of positive psychology” and many now refer to it as “enhanced CBT”. The startling success produced by the efficacy, adaptability and practical nature of these new ideas, is borne out by the speed at which this model is moving into new areas, ranging from psychotherapy, education and social work to international diplomatic relations and the corporate world of business.
Medical Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)) is about every aspect of the, ‘Language of Healing and Health’. It is a way of being that can be applied in every kind of interaction, such as a consultation between a practitioner and a client
Excellent nutrition helps to ensure that our body with all its complex pathways and intricate metabolism receives the essential nutrients in abundance that it needs so it can function at its highest level. Ensuring good nutrition is always a very positive step we can take to support our own health.
Functional medicine involves examining the core clinical imbalances that may underlie a disease or condition – looking beyond signs and symptoms to a deeper understanding of functionality. This approach may be most effective when it is used hand in hand with orthodox medical diagnosis from GPs and Specialist Consultant Doctors and may allow better personal management of clinical disease.
For example, supporting gut health, the immune system and energy metabolism using biochemical testing of established markers.
If you would like to have Psychotherapy sessions it is best to speak on the phone with Mary Strugar and she can have an initial discussion with you prior to potentially booking an appointment.
If your initial interest is to have a nutrition therapy session then a detailed questionnaire and food diary will be sent to you prior to your consultation with a request to complete them and bring them with you to your appointment.
Filling out these forms as a reflective exercise can be very useful and gives excellent background information. We may know, in theory some broad guidelines about healthy eating however, many people often struggle to put this into practice in a constructive way. This is where objective, professional support can be invaluable.
Within the consultation it is very much a dialogue between practitioner and client leading to a process of understanding and education. There is often not just one ‘right’ way to do things and your needs and wishes as well as your ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’ are carefully considered too. Not only will we discuss the theory of what approach may be supportive in your particular circumstances but we will discuss how you can personally put these suggested changes into practice in a manageable, often stepped way.
The important point is that it is a supported process of change leading you towards a better level of health. The first consultation is for 1 hour and follow-ups are 30 mins, 45 mins or a further 1 hour depending on your needs.
Changes to your basic eating pattern and choices may be suggested along with lifestyle changes, such as exercise. The process of change will be supported with motivational techniques coming from Medical NLP and Human Givens Psychotherapy.
